About Me

I've been collecting Coke cans since 1986. While not the biggest collection, I enjoy collecting unique Coke cans and bottles from around the world. I also have an unrestored Vendo 81 in my basement. It's been untouched in 13 years. One of these days I'll restore it to it's full glory. Please take a look at the photo gallery, and if you have a picture to share, go ahead and add it!

Diet Coke Turns 25

Sexy Diet Coke cans

Thanks to Paxton Holleyfor this picture of these sexy Diet Coke cans!  Created in 1982, Diet Coke (also known as Coke Light) has become one of Coca-Cola’s most popular brands.   My wife is hopelessly addicted to the drink.  Actually she drinks Caffeine-Free Diet Coke, which if you’ve ever had it can best be described as timid, and impotent.  Strong words, no?  Anyway I just love these tall, thin Diet Coke cans.  Tomorrow I want to describe the crisis we had when Diet Coke changed their sweetener.  Meanwhile, here some interesting Diet Coke facts.

Diet Coke is not Coca-Cola with less sugar.  It is a different formula altogether, based on the sweetener, aspartame (in most cases).  Over the years, Coca-Cola has tinkered with the formula, blending aspartame with Splenda and sometimes using Nutrasweet.

While Diet Coke is clearly marketed as a product for people who are conscious about their weight, if not their health, there is no small sense of irony here.  Aspartame, for example, has been rumoured to cause health problems.  Some people feel it can actually cause weight gain.  Read this one man’s blog for some eye-opening information.

Is Aspartame in Diet Coke dangerous?

I think aprartame is poison. Why Coke still uses it is beyond me.
