About Me

I've been collecting Coke cans since 1986. While not the biggest collection, I enjoy collecting unique Coke cans and bottles from around the world. I also have an unrestored Vendo 81 in my basement. It's been untouched in 13 years. One of these days I'll restore it to it's full glory. Please take a look at the photo gallery, and if you have a picture to share, go ahead and add it!

Diet Coke Changed its Taste

April 11th, 2010 by Derek

I remember when Diet Coke changed their taste.  I almost called this post “Diet Coke changed their Sweetener” but what’s important is that Coke messed with the taste of their product again.   It was the mid-90′s and my wife was a die-hard Diet Coke fan.  One day, without warning, Diet Coke changed their can design.  My wife cracked open a can, expecting a hit of syrupy goodness.  Instead she curled up her nose.  “This tastes different!”  she told me.  What?  Surely Coke would not have changed their recipe, a scant 10 years after the New Coke fiasco.  But they did. Even I could taste the difference.  Read more »

Diet Coke Turns 25

Sexy Diet Coke cans

Thanks to Paxton Holleyfor this picture of these sexy Diet Coke cans!  Created in 1982, Diet Coke (also known as Coke Light) has become one of Coca-Cola’s most popular brands.   My wife is hopelessly addicted to the drink.  Actually she drinks Caffeine-Free Diet Coke, which if you’ve ever had it can best be described as timid, and impotent.  Strong words, no?  Anyway I just love these tall, thin Diet Coke cans.  Tomorrow I want to describe the crisis we had when Diet Coke changed their sweetener.  Meanwhile, here some interesting Diet Coke facts. Coke Zero Bottle

March 26th, 2010 by Derek

I like this Coke Zero bottle picture.  Coke Zero is basically Diet Coke for men.  It makes sense.  Diet Coke is so popular among women, that it may be perceived my some as a drink for ladies.  Guys, it seems would rather drink a calorie-reduced or calorie-free drink than a “diet” beverage.  Coke Zero, with it’s cool name and black label is quite masculine.  Me?  I drink Caffeine-free Diet Coke.  I can’t take to much caffeine.  Makes me all j-j-j-jumpy.

I found it interesting to learn that while Diet Coke is an entirely different receipe,  Coke Zero is a variation of the Coca-Cola formula.

Update:  I just learned of Cafine-free Coke Zero.  If you’ve tried it, please leave me a comment below!

What do you think?  Is Diet Coke to much of a “ladies drink”?

Is Diet Coke a "lady's drink"?

Russian Diet Coke Can

Russian Diet Coke can

This Diet Coke can from Russia was a gift from my brother-in-law from his trip to Moscow in 2009. I’d like to know the translation of the words on this Russian Diet Coke can. I’m sure it says something innocuous like “enjoy the taste” or “Brothers, throw off the shackles of your oppressors.” Can someone help me out? Read more »

Diet Coke with Bacon

Diet Coke with Bacon flavour

Diet Coke with Bacon flavour

I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw this on the shelf at my local convenience store.  It was only last week when I first tried regular Coca-Cola with Bacon. The flavor engineers at Coke have outdone themselves. Their master work: Diet Coke with Bacon flavor.  Or “DCB” as I like to call it.
