About Me

I've been collecting Coke cans since 1986. While not the biggest collection, I enjoy collecting unique Coke cans and bottles from around the world. I also have an unrestored Vendo 81 in my basement. It's been untouched in 13 years. One of these days I'll restore it to it's full glory. Please take a look at the photo gallery, and if you have a picture to share, go ahead and add it!

Coke Zero sucks

March 14th, 2011 by Derek

I’m sorry. Coke Zero sucks. I want to like it, I really do. The packaging is really apprealing, and the name is cute. But it just doesn’t taste any good. I’d rather drink Diet Coke than Coke Zero. In fact I’d rather drink water than Coke Zero. Well, I should probably drink water anyway. I bought a small bottle of Coke Zero tonight. I thought it would be a nice compliment to my Dorito’s “Sweet chili Heat” chips. By the way, if you’re looking for a spicy chip, WOW, pick up a bag of Sweet Chili Heat. Anyway I tried to wash the spiciness away with Coke Zero. What a disappointment. And this isn’t the first time I’ve tricked myself into buying Coke Zero. I’ve tried it in bottles. cans, and soda fountains.  I tell myself it’s no sugar so I should drink it instead of the regular Coke. In fact what I should do is drink Coke when I want a treat, and drink water when I want a guilt-free way to quench my thirst.

what is Coke Zero Free

Coke Zero Free bottle

wtf?

Launching in Japan, Coke Zero Free is a new beverage based on Coca-Cola Zero.  From what I gather, it is a stripped down formula.  It is free of sugar, caffeine, synthetic fragrances, and most likely, all taste.  Really, after all that, can you still call it Coke?

As Coke comes out with different takes on it’s diet brands, it makes me question why I don’t just drink water?  Or maybe a better question is why do I drink Coke?  I like drinking Coke for a few reasons, only one of which is to quench thirst.  I like the taste and the little boost I get drinking Coca-Cola.  I also like the feeling I get drinking a product I’m used to.  Coca-Cola is a comfort food.  It makes me happy.

I know that Coke has caffeine and sugar and bad stuff in it.  That’s why I drink it in moderation.  I know some people will embrace this new guilt-free Coke Zero Free, but I can’t help think that when you want a healthy drink, choose water.  When you want to endulge, drink the Real Thing.

Coke Zero tastes different in Mexico

April 15th, 2010 by Derek

My friend Todd recently returned from a trip to Mexico.  He did not bring my back any Coke cans, so obviously I’m mad at him, but he did tell me something interesting.  He said the taste of Coke Zero is different in Mexico than here in Canada.  Do you think that could be true?  I was always under the impression that the taste of Coca-Cola was consistent everywhere in the world.  I don’t really travel so I wouldn’t know.  What do you think?

Coke Zero Bottle

March 26th, 2010 by Derek

I like this Coke Zero bottle picture.  Coke Zero is basically Diet Coke for men.  It makes sense.  Diet Coke is so popular among women, that it may be perceived my some as a drink for ladies.  Guys, it seems would rather drink a calorie-reduced or calorie-free drink than a “diet” beverage.  Coke Zero, with it’s cool name and black label is quite masculine.  Me?  I drink Caffeine-free Diet Coke.  I can’t take to much caffeine.  Makes me all j-j-j-jumpy.

I found it interesting to learn that while Diet Coke is an entirely different receipe,  Coke Zero is a variation of the Coca-Cola formula.

Update:  I just learned of Cafine-free Coke Zero.  If you’ve tried it, please leave me a comment below!

What do you think?  Is Diet Coke to much of a “ladies drink”?

Is Diet Coke a "lady's drink"?
