About Me

I've been collecting Coke cans since 1986. While not the biggest collection, I enjoy collecting unique Coke cans and bottles from around the world. I also have an unrestored Vendo 81 in my basement. It's been untouched in 13 years. One of these days I'll restore it to it's full glory. Please take a look at the photo gallery, and if you have a picture to share, go ahead and add it!

Exploding Coke Bottles

August 1st, 2011 by Derek

As I understand it these bottles were made illegal in the 1980′s. When dropped, these bottles had the potential to send shards of broken glass flying like shrapnel from a grenade. These huge Coke bottles are 1.5 litres a piece. The diet Coke can in the photo is to give you and idea of the size of the Coke bottles.

As I pulled these Coke bottles out to photograph them, I wondered when the Coke might taste like? I wish it would retain it’s original flavour. The Diet Coke would pre-date the recipe change of the mid 90′s. The label says it’s made with Nutrasweet. I can imagine the Coke would also contain a higher amount of real sugar. Mmm… sugar.

Toy Soda Dispenser Coke

August 1st, 2011 by Derek
Toy Coke soda dispenser

I had to show you this. This is a toy Coke soda dispenser from the 1960′s. It came to me in it’s original box. It was unsold stock from a hardware store that went out of business, and it was in their stock room for 40 years. It came with 4 plastic coke glasses. It operates like this. You pop open a 6.5oz bottle of Coke and insert the plastic spout/pull handle into the mouth of the bottle. You then put the bottle back into the toy. When you pull down on the handle, the bottle inside tips and Coke pours out of the spout. Cool idea. If this toy were made today I expect it would have some electronic “glug-glug” sound and it would likely have a bunch of flavours to choose from. I haven’t seen another of these toy Coke soda dispensers around in person.

I found another 70′s era toy Coke dispenser here.

Diet Coke with Bacon is it real

May 3rd, 2010 by Derek

Diet Coke with Bacon flavour

I blogged about “Diet Coke with Bacon flavor” a few months ago.  I was totally making that story up about how it tasted.  Turns out that was one of my more popular posts!  I guess a lot of people were fooled.  I found this photo on the net of Diet Coke with Bacon a while ago and decided to have some fun with it.  I suspect that some graphic-arts student put it together for a laugh.

There are however a lot of real Diet Coke flavors.  Here’s a list:

  • Diet Coke Cherry
  • Diet Coke Black Cherry Vanilla
  • Diet Coke Raspberry
  • Diet Coke Lemon
  • Diet coke Lime

I didn’t mention all the other variants of the recipe like Diet Caffeine-free Coke, of Diet Coke Plus.

Old Coke Can

Old Coke can
Old Coke Can

This old Coke can is from 1985.  It’s from Ontario.  I like it because it’s a transition can.  Coke was still letting people know that this is “Classic” as in “Original Taste”.  Ironically, I think they went to a cheaper sweetener when Classic came about.

If you have a moment, why not check out some of the old Coke cans in the photo gallery?

Solid Glass Coke Bottles

April 22nd, 2010 by Derek

Solid Glass Coke BottleLook at this solid glass Coca-Cola bottle.  This picture was sent to me by Larry Slivinsky, a fellow Coke Collector.  I love this thing.  I’d bet it makes a great conversation piece on his desk!  I wonder if this is an official (licensed) Coke collectible item, or if it’s someone’s tribute to the famous Coke bottle?

Here’s a photo of his brass coke bottle as well.  I wonder how many of these were made?  If you have one, or can tell me about either of them, please leave me a comment!
